A positive pregnancy test is an important step, but it doesn’t provide the complete picture. An ultrasound is needed to understand your pregnancy fully. This imaging tool offers essential information that helps protect your health and equips you.

At Women First Pregnancy Center, we offer free limited ultrasounds to women who receive a positive pregnancy test at our center. We offer these scans in a caring, confidential setting where your comfort and well-being come first.

Why You May Need an Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of the inside of your body. During early pregnancy, this allows us to confirm key details that cannot be determined by a pregnancy test alone. The scan may be done abdominally or transvaginally if clearer images are needed, especially in the earliest stages.

Here’s what an ultrasound can reveal:

Pregnancy Viability

We check for signs that your pregnancy is developing inside the uterus and if a heartbeat is detected. This can help identify if a miscarriage has occurred, as studies show up to 26% of pregnancies end naturally. Knowing this early allows for timely medical care if needed.

Gestational Age

Knowing how far along you are is critical. Some pregnancy options and legal guidelines depend on gestational age. If you’re exploring options, accurate dating is still essential as medical abortion is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks.

Pregnancy Location

Your pregnancy should develop in the uterus. If it implants elsewhere, such as in a fallopian tube, it’s called an ectopic pregnancy. This is a serious, life-threatening condition that cannot continue and requires urgent medical attention. An ultrasound can identify this issue early.
